Edmund snaps losing streak

Kyle Edmund has secured his first victory in an ATP Tour match since August by beating Ricardas Berankis in the opening round of the Paris Masters. The Brit snapped his eight-match losing streak by claiming a 6-4 6-3 victory in his first-round match and will now face 14th seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina for a place in the last 16. Edmund’s previous victory was over Australian Nick Kyrgios in the opening round of the Rogers Cup during the summer and he has slipped down to number 75 in the latest world rankings behind fellow Brits Dan Evans and Cameron Norrie. The 24-year-old was ranked as high as 14th at the start of the year following a successful 2018 that saw him win his maiden ATP Tour title at the European Open, while he also made it through to the semi-finals of the 2018 Australian Open. However, the South African-born star did not make it to the second week of any of this year’s Grand Slam events, so will be hoping his victory over Berankis can kick-start an upturn in form.
