Gough lands England coaching role

Darren Gough says it is a “tremendous honour” to become part of England’s coaching set-up during the upcoming tour of New Zealand. The former Yorkshire fast bowler has agreed a short-term consultancy deal to work with England’s bowling attack. Gough, who played with new England head coach Chris Silverwood during his career, is highly regarded among members of the senior coaching staff. The 49-year-old has no shortage of experience from his time as the spearhead of England’s bowling attack through the 1990s, where he took 229 wickets in 58 Tests. The former bowler, who previously stayed away from coaching due to his punditry work, is a qualified level three cricket coach, said: “It is a tremendous honour to be asked by Chris Silverwood and Ashley Giles to be involved in this elite environment. “I very much look forward to working with all the bowlers and helping them improve. “I will gain a lot from the experience and to work at this level will benefit me as a coach for the long-term. I can’t wait to get cracking.”
