Cricket Australia have confirmed all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will take a short break from cricket to deal with mental health problems. The 31-year-old has recently been part of the Twenty20 team that is playing Sri Lanka, with Maxwell hitting 62 off 28 balls on Sunday. He was not required to bat in the second match on Wednesday, but he has now decided to concentrate on his health for the foreseeable future. Maxwell, who has made 171 appearances for Australia since making his debut in 2012, has now been replaced in the T20 squad by D’Arcy Short. Cricket Australia says Maxwell raised the issues with support staff and they are now hoping to do all they can to help him along the way. Ben Oliver, the head of Australia’s national teams, said: “The well-being of our players and staff is paramount. Glenn has our full support. He’s a special player and an important part of the Australian cricket family. “We hope to see him back in the team during the summer.”
