Early Season Contenders For The PFA Player Of The Season

Early Season Contenders For The PFA Player Of The Season

Liverpool have set a blistering pace in the first quarter of the 2019/20 Premier League season and the majority of teams are struggling to keep up.

They are the only side in England’s top four divisions that are yet to lose a game this season, but Manchester City will remain hopeful that they can claw back the Reds, as they did last season.
The bookmakers have made the current leaders the favourites for the title, and punters can compare the best betting sites in the UK to maximise their potential returns on all bets surrounding the destination of the Premier League title. One reason why Liverpool have been shortened as the favourites has been down to the solid start that their players have made on the pitch. But will any of them be honoured by winning the illustrious PFA Player of the Year accolade?
Virgil van Dijk
Once again, one of the Reds’ best players has been their central defender. The difference that van Dijk has made in the Liverpool backline since his arrival has been astounding. In his very first season at Anfield, he guided the club to the Champions League final. Ultimately they lost that gme to Real Madrid, but they returned to the final again the following season and went one better.
In the Premier League, his performances have been amazing and have ensured that the Reds are able to boast the best defensive record in the division. He is difficult for strikers to get past give his combination of pace and power, making him one of the world’s best in his position. His main strength is in the air, but he is light of foot and has a tremendous turn of speed. He will be the front runner for the honour this season should Liverpool maintain their push for the title.
Raheem Sterling
There aren’t many players in the world that are more closely scrutinised than Raheem Sterling at this moment in time. He has a complete game which, largely down to the coaching of Pep Guardiola. The fee that City paid Liverpool for him back in the summer of 2015 now looks minuscule, as he would be worth at least £100 million in the current market. His performances on the pitch have been consistent for the past three seasons, and he has added goals to his game.
So far in the season, he has scored four in three Champions League games and six in eight in the Premier League. He has slowly become a role model for all upcoming footballers, as well as taking on a prominent figurehead role for kicking racism out of the sport. If City are to win the Premier League this season, Sterling will have a crucial role in their success.
Kevin De Bruyne
It shows how strong Manchester City are when they were able to win the Premier League last season without the PFA Player of the Year winner from the season before. However, the Belgium midfielder is back fit again this season and, on his day, is the undisputed best player in the division. His performances on the pitch this season have been outstanding, and that is backed up by his stats.
He has scored twice in the Premier League so far this season, but his main calling card has been his assists. He has already recorded eight assists in eight games, averaging an assist every game. He will be a pivotal player should City have hopes of reclaiming their Premier League title for the third consecutive season, and on this form, they will be very hard to beat.
