Rafael Nadal says he is “super sad” to withdraw from the Paris Masters due to injury as his ATP Finals spot is thrown into doubt. The Spaniard was set to take on Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals of the event in the French capital on Saturday. However, he pulled out of the match just minutes before he was scheduled to take to the court due to an abdominal problem, and Shapovalov will go on to face Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final. “It’s a super sad moment for me,” Nadal said. “I have been enjoying a lot during the whole tournament, having fun on court.” Nadal could have sealed his spot as the year-end world number one by winning the title in Paris. It also throws his involvement in the ATP Finals, which get underway in London on November 10, into doubt.
