Exeter boss hails ‘fighting spirit’

Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter has hailed his side for showing a “fighting spirit” to defeat Worcester on Sunday. The Chiefs were eager to get back to winning ways after losing 13-10 to Bath in their second game of the 2019-20 campaign. But they trailed 17-10 at half-time and required a late score from Harry Williams to maintain their perfect Premiership record at Worcester. Williams’ try, which came with just six minutes left to play, helped them to a 24-20 victory and ensured they avoided back-to-back league defeats for the first time since they lost three in a row in 2018. Baxter feels their “fighting spirit” will be key as the season progresses. “To have shown the fighting qualities and the desire to win, from being behind for the majority of the game, to me says untold credit really to the players,” Baxter told BBC Radio Devon. “We’ve still got this really strong fighting spirit that we don’t just lie down. The best thing is we look like we’ve improved over the course of the game.”
