Canaries starlet pens new deal

Norwich defender Akin Famewo has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract, extending his stay at Carrow Road until June 2023. The centre-back joined the Canaries from Luton during January and went on to captain the under-23s squad.
The 20-year-old has also been involved in Daniel Farke’s first-team training, and was named on the bench for the Premier League match against Aston Villa.
Famewo is making rapid progress and is determined to improve even more with a view to breaking into the Canaries first-team on a regular basis in the near future.
The deal clearly shows how highly Canaries boss Farke rates him, and he is determined to make the most of the opportunity after being handed the deal. “It is hard to describe how I am feeling right now because there is a lot of excitement and good vibes,” Famewo said. “It has been a big step up to working with the first-team because the intensity of the Premier League is a lot faster and stronger, but I feel like I am learning and adapting to it.” “The aim is to play and eventually be involved in the first-team, so I’m taking good steps. I want to represent the club for as long as possible.”
Farke has revealed his delight at Famewo penning the contract and feels the young defender has earned his new deal on merit. The Canaries boss also believes the best is yet to come from him. “Akin has recently stepped up to first team training and has adapted very well,” the German said. “We know he still needs time to develop, but he is very much on the right track. He’s a good person and has a good presence and energy around him.”
Norwich, who won the Sky Bet Championship last season, are currently 19th in the Premier League table, without a win in six matches ahead of the visit of bottom club Watford on Friday night.
It would not be the right time to throw Famewo into the side as they battle for their lives in the top flight and Farke will tread very carefully with the youngster.
