Ancelotti on borrowed time – report

Reports in Italy are suggesting that coach Carlo Ancelotti will leave Napoli at the end of the season, if not before. The 60-year-old has been in the post since May 2018 and secured a 55 per cent win rate since taking the helm, but things have not gone so well this term.
The Partenopei sit seventh in the Italian top flight standings having won just five of their 11 matches, leaving them 11 points behind table-topping Juventus.
They have done well in Europe, however, with Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg seeing them second in Champions League Group E just one point behind Liverpool.

However, it is behind the scenes that there have been issues, with president Aurelio De Laurentiis ordering the players to be confined to a training camp after last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Roma.
Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that the former Chelsea tactician did not agree with his boss and let his men go home after this week’s match, in direct conflict with De Laurentiis’s wishes.
The report states that there is now tension among the club’s hierarchy and it may be that the former Paris Saint-Germain coach does not even make it to the end of the current campaign, either quitting himself of being relieved of his duties.
There could be some respite at the weekend, as Napoli host a Genoa side who are just one spot above the Serie A relegation zone and have conceded the most goals in the division – 26 in 11 games.
