Leonardo hits back at Zidane’s Mbappe claims

Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director Leonardo has hit out at Zinedine Zidane’s claims Kylian Mbappe dreams of playing for Real Madrid. Mbappe, who helped his country win the World Cup in 2018, has spoken in the past of his admiration for the Spanish outfit and there have been continuous rumours of a potential move in the future.
Zidane further muddied the waters surrounding the 20-year-old France forward’s long-term future at the Parc des Princes by suggesting that his compatriot’s “dream” was to one day play for Real Madrid.
The player has just over two years remaining on the contract he penned when joining on an initial loan deal from Ligue 1 rivals Monaco in summer 2017.
PSG agreed to pay around €145 million plus €35 million in add-ons to Monaco for Mbappe’s signature and would be looking to pick up more than that if they do agree to sell.
However, reports claim that they are set to offer him a bumper new contract to try and ward off potential suitors.
And Leonardo has expressed his disappointment in Zidane’s attempt to try and distract the youngster.
He said: “Kylian is a very important player for us. Now is not the time to destabilise him. “[Mbappe] is a player who has two and a half years left on his contract with us, so to talk about what he wants, his ‘dream’, every time… if we can just stop this, pause this talk.”
Mbappe has scored 69 goals in almost 100 appearances for PSG, including nine in 11 outings already this season.
