Torreira considering Arsenal future

Midfielder Lucas Torreira will reportedly hold talks with Arsenal next week as he considers his future at the Emirates. Arsenal signed Torreira from Sampdoria in 2018 after some impressive displays for Uruguay at the World Cup in Russia.
They handed over a fee in the region of £25million and Torreira made his Premier League debut on the opening day of the 2018-19 campaign.
He was given a 20-minute cameo from the bench as Arsenal succumbed 2-0 to Manchester City at the Emirates.
Gunners fans were heartened by what they saw from the combative midfielder though and felt he was just the player they had been yearning for over the past few seasons.
Torreira went on to establish himself as a key figure, making 34 Premier League appearances, starting 24 times, and scoring twice.
Indeed, he racked up 50 appearances across all competitions and was expected to be a major part of Unai Emery’s side again this season.
But he has started just three games, netting once, and is understandably growing frustrated at a lack of regular action.
Emery has preferred Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi to play in the holding roles this term, while Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos has also been deployed in midfield.
Xhaka’s recent fallout with the fans, which subsequently led to him being stripped of the captaincy, has handed Torreira a route back to the starting XI.
The number 11 started in the draw with Wolves on Saturday but he is seeking further reassurances over his role at the club.
Reports claim he will meet with Arsenal officials next week to hold make-or-break talks over his long-term future in north London.
The 23-year-old fears his development could stall if he doesn’t get regular action and a January exit has been mooted if he fails to hear the right noises.
