Payet not in Deschamps’ thoughts

France boss Didier Deschamps says he isn’t planning to recall Marseille’s Dimitri Payet any time soon. Payet has been capped 38 times by Les Bleus but hasn’t been involved with the national team this year, while he managed just one outing in 2018.
The forward starred for Marseille on Sunday when Payet scored both goals in their 2-1 win over Lyon.
Speaking on Monday, Deschamps refused to completely rule out a return for Payet but warned “there are other players who have arrived, who have met my expectations”.
Deschamps did say Payet was “still selectable” but suggested he was a part of France’s past rather than their future as he “did what was needed at a specific time”.
Payet has managed four goals in nine league appearances for Marseille this season and OM are currently second in the Ligue 1 table, eight points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Deschamps has selected Thomas Lemar, Kingsley Coman, Nabil Fekir, Wissam Ben Yedder, Antoine Griezmann , Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe as his attacking options for France’s fixtures during this month’s international break.
France take on Moldova on November 14 and then Albania three days later.
