Eriksen says form not linked to contract

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen says his indifferent form has nothing to do with his current contract situation. Eriksen has mirrored Spurs’ form this season and has underwhelmed so far with his performances. In 15 games in all competitions, he has scored just twice and has often been left out of the starting line-up.
The Dane’s form has seemingly coincided with his comments at the end of last season following Spurs’ 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League final at the Metropolitano in Madrid.
He indicated he would be looking to move on from north London, having not won a major trophy at the club since joining in 2012 under former boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino has been eager to see his star playmaker pen a new deal but, as it stands, there has been no movement.
He would be able to walk away for nothing at the end of the season and has been linked with moves.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been credited with interest in the past for a 27-year-old whose future is still in limbo.
Despite the situation, Eriksen is still adamant his below-par form has nothing to do with his contract issue. “I don’t feel there is a connection between my contract situation and the fact that I haven’t played as many matches,” he said. “I’ve been in the right situations. I just haven’t taken the right decisions. It’s a bit about the sharpness that is missing. This is something I have to work on myself.”
Tottenham’s season has been disastrous so far, with the side badly underperforming. They have not won in five Premier League games and are 14th after Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Sheffield United.
It has not been any easier in other competitions, with Spurs battered 7-2 at home by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
They were also eliminated from the EFL Cup after losing to League Two outfit Colchester United on penalties.
