Brewin’upastorm set for Grade 1 outing

Trainer Olly Murphy is looking forward to seeing how Brewin’upastorm performs at Sandown after Thursday’s victory at Taunton. Having won at Carlisle on October 24, the six-year-old made it two from two over fences with victory in the Michael Spiers Novices’ Chase. Just four went to post and it was a comfortable outing for the son of Milan under Richard Johnson, with Murphy’s charge getting the better of Southfield Stone. Paul Nicholls’ Gedling led until the ninth but Johnson’s mount responded when asked, to come home with four lengths to spare. Romanor was the only other finisher, 58 lengths away, and a delighted Murphy is now looking for his progressive star to move up to Grade One company on December 7. “He had to do a lot of the donkey work himself, but it’s nice to get day two out of the way and he also had a penalty, which didn’t make life easy, but I was delighted with his performance,” said the handler. “I’m looking forward to going on to bigger and better things now. He certainly will have learnt a lot again today. He’s passed his day two test and hopefully he’ll be OK in the morning. His early-season aim is the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown in three weeks’ time.”
