Djokovic dejected after O2 exit

Novak Djokovic could find little positive to say after his 6-4 6-3 defeat at the hands of Roger Federer at the ATP Finals on Thursday night. The Serb, who had aspirations of finishing the year as the world number one, crashed out of the season-ending championships at the O2 Arena in London with defeat to Federer. Having already lost to Dominic Thiem earlier this week, Djokovic’s second loss of the competition meant it was end of the line, tasting defeat against his great rival whom who he beat in the final of Wimbledon earlier this year. “There was not much that I did right this match, to be honest. Realistically he was better player in all aspects and absolutely deserved to win,” Djokovic said. “He served great, moved well, returned my serve very well. From his end, I think he did everything right. “From my end, I was just playing too neutral. I couldn’t read his serve well. Just a pretty bad match from my side.” Despite suffering “sharp pain” in his elbow, Djokovic says he expects to play at next week’s revamped Davis Cup finals. Meanwhile, Federer can now look forward to a meeting with either top seed Rafael Nadal or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last four of the ATP Finals.
