Aguero gives City nudge over successor

Sergio Aguero has flagged up Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez as his potential successor, according to sources inside the Etihad. Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer knows all about the highly-rated 22-year-old from their short time playing together for Argentina, with plenty of comparisons being drawn between the pair.
Martinez has scored eights goals and three assists in 16 appearances in all competitions for the San Siro giants this term, attracting plenty of scouts already to watch him in action.
It is understood Aguero, whose contract runs out at the end of next season, has spoken to both manager Pep Guardiola and director of football Txiki Begiristain, to suggest his fellow countryman is good enough to fill his considerable boots when the time comes for him to leave.
The Citizens, however, will have to get a move on, as reports in Italy have stated that Spanish giants Barcelona are also very keen and willing to offer France forward Ousmane Dembele in exchange next summer.
Bosses at the Nerazzurri are also aware Martinez has a £110m buyout clause which can be activated by a club outside of Italy during the first two weeks of July 2020.
Aguero could move to America’s Major League Soccer when his deal elapses in 2021, rather than the widely-held view that he would return to Argentina to play for his boyhood club, Independiente.
He has formed a decent friendship with Martinez, who has long looked up to the legendary City striker, which could yet be an ace up the sleeve of ‘Kun’s’ employers, should they act on his recommendation in the near future.
The Manchester giants know the market has moved on considerably since they paid £37m to acquire Aguero from Atletico Madrid back in 2011, with suggestions now they will not think twice to break the £100m barrier for the right goalscorer.
