Leicester midfielder James Maddison has picked up a calf injury and could sit out England’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Kosovo on Sunday. Maddison finally made his first appearance for the Three Lions as they hammered Montenegro 7-0 on Thursday night but he is reported to have picked up the injury problem during the game.
With qualification now in the bag, Maddison would have been hoping for his first England start, but he may now miss out altogether.
The midfielder has travelled with the rest of the squad and is set to undergo a late fitness test on the issue, which would suggest it is nothing serious, but Gareth Southgate is unlikely to take any risks on the player with it being a nothing game.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers and everyone connected with the Foxes will also be hoping the same as Maddison has been a revelation again this season and one of the reasons they sit second in the Premier League table.
Rodgers has a talented squad available to him, but their chances of remaining in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League will very much depend on keeping everyone fit.
Injuries to key players would be a huge setback and Rodgers will be hoping his international brigade return unscathed ahead of the return to Premier League action this week.
Leicester are back in action when they travel to Brighton on Saturday and Rodgers will want all of his players, including Maddison, fit and available.
Eight points separate Leicester from Premier League leaders Liverpool but probably more telling is the fact they are nine ahead of Sheffield United, who occupy fifth, and Champions League qualification is well and truly in their own hands.
Another three points against the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium is another step towards achieving that goal.
