Leverkusen sporting director says Chelsea must pay £90m asking price for ‘artist’ Kai Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has warned Chelsea they will not lower their £90million asking price for Kai Havertz this summer.

The German star has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge after an impressive season has seen him score 17 goals in all competitions.

Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz said the 21-year-old would not be sold for less than £90million before the coronavirus outbreak and Voller said the club are determined to stick to their original value.

Asked if the club had already agreed to sell the 21-year-old, Voller told Gazzetta dello Sport: ‘No, but with his talent, it means he’s on the list of all the best clubs.

‘We know of the interest of a couple of clubs, especially Chelsea, but for us, the situation is quite simple; he has a two-year contract, if anyone wants him on our terms, fine, otherwise he stays here another year and we are happy.

‘It won’t be easy, but for an artist like him there is no Covid discount.’

Voller also insisted no deal would take place before Leverkusen have completed their Europa League campaign with the Bundesliga side set to face Inter Milan in the quarter finals on Monday.
