Salah sends congratulatory message to Kane after Tottenham striker wins Golden Boot

Mohamed Salah has sent a congratulatory message to Harry Kane after the Tottenham star narrowly beat him to the Premier League Golden Boot award.

Both the forwards were level on 22 goals going into the final day of the season, but while Salah drew a blank during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Crystal Palace Kane scored Spurs’ opener in a 4-2 victory over Leicester.

It saw the England striker win the award for the third time in his career, but it is the first time he has managed the feat since Salah made the move to Anfield, with the Egyptian winning it twice during that period.

There has been some talk of a developing rivalry between the two players recently, especially after Salah said ahead of the Champions League final in 2019: “Harry Kane is a good player, he’s proved that for many years. He’s a top scorer for the team, for English football… before I came, I’m sorry!”

But on Sunday Salah was magnanimous in defeat in the race for the Golden Boot.

Kane tweeted a picture of himself holding that award along with the one for playmaker of the season after he created the most assists and said: “Delighted to win these awards! Not possible without the team and staff throughout the season.”

And Salah replied: “Very well deserved! Congratulations!”

It remains to be seen where Kane will be playing his football next season, with rumours continuing to suggest he could make a summer transfer to either Manchester City or Manchester United.
