Milan have reportedly entered talks with Barcelona over a possible loan deal for Philippe Coutinho, but the €12m-a-season salary is the biggest obstacle.
Tuttosport reports the Rossoneri are working to bring the former Inter player back to San Siro this summer and have contacted the Blaugrana.
The Brazilian has a contract worth €12m a season at Camp Nou and is ties to the Catalans until June 2023.
Milan are hoping to sign the former Liverpool man on a loan deal, as he has two years left on the deal at Barca, but the salary of the 29-year-old is the major obstacle for the Diavolo.
Coutinho played 12 La Liga games in 2020-21 and has struggled to convince since his €135m transfer to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018.
Coutinho spent 2019-20 on loan with Bayern Munich but returned to Spain last summer and Milan have, according to the newspaper, been told he could be available to move this summer.
The Brazil international, capped 63 times by the Selecao, moved to Inter from Vasco da Gama in July 2008 before he returned to his homeland on loan.
He also spent time on loan with Espanyol in Spain before he moved on a permanent deal to Liverpool in January 2013.
