2022 WCQ: Super Eagles Seek To Consolidate Winning Start Vs Cape Verde (See Match Details Inside)

Super Eagles will be hoping to consolidate on their brilliant start to the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as the team face Cape Verde at the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena, Mindelo on Tuesday.

Last week Friday, Nigeria defeated Liberia 2-0 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s brace to send the team top of Group C.

On the other hand, Cape Verde played out a 1-1 draw against the Central Africa Republic (CAR) to share one point apiece.

The Super Eagles will approach the Blue Sharks game missing a handful of first-team regulars who distinguished themselves against Liberia but have departed for their United Kingdom-based clubs.

Head coach Gernot Rohr will be without Friday’s two-goal hero Kelechi Iheanacho, MVP Alex Iwobi, first-choice centre-backs Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong, Rangers ace Joe Aribo, Watford star Oghenekaro Etebo, and Leicester City dynamo Wilfred Ndidi.

Cape Verde is among countries in Britain’s COVID-19 red zone and players for clubs in the United Kingdom are barred from travelling to such countries.

A win will also brighten the path of the three –time African champions to the knockout final round, given that home-and-away fixture against the Central African Republic is what is on the plate in October.

Head-to-Head

This will be only the second meeting between both nations and the first competitive clash between them. Their sole fixture came in a friendly fixture in January 2013 which ended in a goalless draw.

Possible Line Ups

Cape Verde possible lineup (4-3-3): Vozinha; D.Tavares, Lopes, Stopira, S.Furtado; Andrade, Ponck, Santos; Mendes, J.Tavares, A.Furtado

Nigeria’s possible lineup (4-2-3-1): Okoye; Aina, Omeruo, Awaziem, Collins; Abdullahi, Bonke; Simon, Kalu, Musa; Osimhen.
