Former Kwara United coach, Samson Unuanel has blamed Super Eagles’ drop in the latest FIFA ranking to the team’s 1-0 loss to the Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Karl Namnganda, a second-half substitution for CAR, scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time, marking the first time Nigeria has lost a world cup qualifying match at home in 25 matches.
The Super Eagles however, avenged the defeat by winning 2-0 in the reverse fixture in Douala, Cameroon thanks to goals from Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen.
In a chat with Completesports.com, Unuanel stated that Nigeria’s first loss to CAR was behind the team’s drop to 36th in the latest FIFA rankings.

“I was not too surprised with the Super Eagles position in the latest FIFA rankings considering how the team lost against the Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the World Cup qualifiers.
“I know very well that there is no magic the team will perform in the reverse fixture to change the whole scenario that happened at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
“However, we have the chance to move up if the team can beat Liberia and Cape Verde respectively in their next fixtures. For now, the team is in good place and will get better.”
