Exclusive:Why NFF Must Learn From Senegal’s 2021 AFCON Success –Akpoborie

Former Nigerian forward, Jonathan Akpoborie has advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to learn from the success of the Teranga Lions of Senegal in the just concluded 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Recall that Senegal won their first AFCON trophy after overcoming the Pharaohs of Egypt in Sunday’s final via penalty shootouts at the Olembé stadium of Yaounde.

However, the former Wolfsburg striker told Completesports.com in an interview that the NFF must learn to give Nigerian coaches the opportunity to handle the Super Eagles just like Senegal gave Aliou Cissé the chance to excel.

“I am really proud of Senegal’s victory over Egypt considering the fact that it’s their first Africa Cup of Nations title,” Akpoborie, a former Super Eagles star who won bronze at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations told Completesports.com.

“However, one thing I think the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) must learn from their victory is that they gave Aliou Cissé the free hand to tinker the team to success.

“Again, the NFF should use this opportunity to offer Austine Eguavoen the Super Eagles job on a permanent basis and ensure that they appoint capable assistant coaches that will be of great services to him.”
