De Gea Blames Curse For Man United’s Poor Form

Manchester United Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea claims the Red Devils could be under a curse as their dismal season continues.

United’s hopes of salvaging something from the current campaign lie in the balance as they battle to try and clinch a top-four position in the Premier League.

Having gone into the season with some hope of a potential title challenge, the reality has been much starker for the Reds, and they now face going yet another season without a trophy.

Having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle earlier on in the season, their FA Cup journey came to an abrupt end in the fourth round as they were knocked out on penalties by Championship side Middlesbrough last week.

And a draw at Burnley in midweek saw United fall out of the top four, with Ralf Rangnick’s side facing an uphill battle to clinch qualification for next season’s Champions League amid more disruption off the field with reports claiming players are unhappy at the German’s training methods.

The former RB Leipzig boss has been unable to arrest United’s slide since arriving in December, and though his goalkeeper has been one of the few players to find some form this season, De Gea admits he doesn’t know what the answer is.

“I think someone has put a curse on us or something,” the goalkeeper told El Pais.

“The truth is I don’t know what’s going on, I really don’t.

“People always ask me and we talk about it as team-mates and we just say, ‘we don’t know what’s happening’.”

United will be aiming to get their top four hopes back on track on Saturday as they host Southampton at Old Trafford.

While they sit just a point off fourth, both Arsenal and Tottenham hold two games in hand on them, meaning they will have to rely on results elsewhere if they are to finish in a Champions League place this season
