Ronaldo breaks Alfredo Di Stefano’s all-time record

Cristiano Ronaldo has virtually run out of records to break, but he was at it once again on Tuesday night and broke one previously held by Los Blancos legend Alfredo Di Stefano.

The 31-year-old has been in stunning form this season, but he really had to roll his sleeves up for the visit of Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.

Dieter Hecking’s side were leading 2-0 from the Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Volkswagen Arena last week and the pressure was on Zinedine Zidane’s side to seize the initiative.

And they did just that, with Ronaldo scoring a brace within 90 seconds of each other shortly after a quarter of the clash.

And the Portugal international got the decisive third – his fifth Champions League hat-trick, to put him level with Lionel Messi – while also setting a new record.

Ronaldo’s 16th Champions League goal of the season means he has now scored 15 goals in European Cup/Champions League quarter-finals, which has beaten the all-time record of Di Stefano.

It really does highlight the levels the former Manchester United man has reached, who is often criticised for scoring the a number of goals from the penalty spot.

The two-time Champions League winner will be keen to help Real Madrid win their 11th European Cup at the end of this season.
