Son Heung-min Snubs Ronaldo And Messi; Names Neymar As The ‘Best Player In The World’

Spurs  star Son Heung-min has rated Neymar of PSG as the best player in the world, over Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and even Kylian Mbappe.

The Korean just became the first Asian to win the Premier League Golden Boot after concluding the 2021-22 season with 23 goals, level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. Son reinforced his standing as one of the top strikers in the world by helping Spurs to fourth place and a return to the Champions League after three years.

Son believes Neymar is better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Son believes Neymar is better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He lavished plaudits on Neymar, declaring him the best player in the world, as his national team prepares to face Brazil in an international friendly. In a news conference, he said (via talkSPORT):

“Neymar is the best player in the world, and I think I am working hard to become the best player in the world,” he said.

Despite an injury-plagued season at PSG, the Brazilian astro scored 13 goals and added six assists in 22 league games as manager Mauricio Pochettino’s side won the Ligue 1 title.

Messi, on the other hand, struggled in his first year in Paris, scoring only six goals but proving to be an important facilitator with 13 assists, second only to Mbappe, who outperformed both Messi and Neymar.

The 23-year-old was the face of PSG’s season, scoring 39 goals and assisting 26 times in 46 games across all competitions while also rejecting Real Madrid by dedicating his future to Paris.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo was one of Manchester United’s few bright spots amid a disappointing season, hitting 24 goals while going trophyless for the first time in 12 years.

Since joining Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen, Son has scored 205 goals (131 goals and 74 assists) in 325 appearances, despite the fact that trophies have eluded him.

He has only two runners-up medals from the 2019 Champions League final and the 2021 Carabao Cup final with the club.
