Luka Modric’s trophy-laden spell at Real Madrid will be extended for at least another year after the veteran midfielder agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions.
Modric has established himself as one of the greatest players of the modern era at Real Madrid, winning five Champions League titles as well as the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
His spell at Real Madrid appeared to be coming to an end this summer as his contract was set to expire, but a 12-month extension will keep him at the club.
What Are The Terms Of Modric’s New Contract?
Modric was set to become a free agent on June 30, as it was reported last month, but Madrid has offered him new terms that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until the end of the 2022-23 season.
The 36-year-old has persuaded the club’s board to keep him after another outstanding season in which he scored three goals and added 12 assists in 45 games across all competitions, with one of his best performances coming in the win over Liverpool.
Real Madrid will consider extending Modric’s contract until 2024 if he continues to perform at a high level next season.

What did Modric have to say about his new contract?
He stayed mute about a new contract for the majority of the season, preferring to let his football speak for itself as negotiations took place behind the scenes.
Modric has made it quite clear that he intends to finish his career with Real Madrid, where he has played since 2012.
“I hope I can retire at Madrid. Madrid is my home. I feel very happy at the club, in the city, very loved by the people,” He said this after collecting the Marca Leyenda award earlier this month.
“My family is also very happy, so I hope to continue for more years and hopefully finish my career here.”
When speaking to Real Madrid TV after the club’s Champions League celebration event, Modric effectively confirmed that he will be signing a new contract, saying: “See you here next season.”
