Kamaru Usman and Jan Blachowicz engaged in a staredown backstage at UFC 276. Usman recently uploaded a picture of the scene, claiming the former light heavyweight champion is “nothing he can’t handle.” The Nigerian Nightmare made fun of the Pole’s slurred English as well. On Instagram, the UFC welterweight champion wrote: “Nothing I can’t Handle… But first the English 👊🏿🌍 #AndStill #P4P”
When Jan Blachowicz was the 205-pound champion, Kamaru Usman considered moving up to light heavyweight, bypassing the middleweight category. However, Glover Teixeira dethroned the Pole in his first title defence at UFC 268.
Teixeira recently lost his title to Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 275 main event, which saw ‘Denisa’ record a stunning comeback victory with less than half a minute remaining. Ali Abdelaziz, Usman’s manager, was dissatisfied and asserted that the welterweight champion was capable of defeating the top three light heavyweights.
In his most recent fight, Blachowicz defeated top contender Aleksandar Rakic via third-round TKO. Following his recent staredown with Usman, the former champion stated that he enjoys hunting monsters such as ‘The Nigerian Nightmare.’
So, you say people call you “The Nigerian Nightmare”… a monster. Good. I hunt monsters. Makes no difference how scary they are.#JanTheWitcher #JB13 #LegendaryPolishPower pic.twitter.com/q62LSveedZ

Defending His Territory
It would be fantastic for Usman’s followers worldwide if he were sincere about visiting the land of the giants. But, at the same time, he can’t afford to lose sight of the mission at hand – Leon Edwards.
On August 20, Edwards will finally receive his long-awaited shot at the title when he faces Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 278 in Salt Lake City. As of this writing, Kamaru is the clear favourite with the bookmakers, but ‘Rocky’ is the kind of opponent that has the potential to surprise a lot of people, including Usman himself.
For the sake of this argument though, if Usman does win, moving up in weight might be his best option besides going after the Canelo Alvarez boxing bout.
