Ousmane Dembele Agrees Two-Year Renewal With Barcelona

Barcelona have confirmed that Ousmane Dembele has agreed to a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2024. The winger’s agency and the Catalan club reached an agreement last week to extend his contract, which has now been made official.

Dembele’s previous contract with Barcelona expired on June 30, making him a free agent. Xavi, on the other hand, sees the France international as an important player and has appealed with the club’s officials to sign him to new terms.

What Are The Terms Of Dembele’s New Contract With Barcelona?

Dembele has agreed to a new two-year contract with Barcelona, which will run until June 30, 2024.

The forwards has also agreed to a significant pay cut, with his compensation reportedly being cut by 40%.

However, variables dependent on his participation and performance in the next two seasons have also been added. If he is successful in checking off every box, he will be paid about €10 million annually.

Which Teams Were Unable To Sign Ousmane Dembele?

As soon as Dembele became a free agent, numerous teams sought to sign him.

Chelsea were said to be interested in signing the winger since Thomas Tuchel had previously worked with him at Borussia Dortmund. Dembele wasn’t their top priority, though; as a result, the Blues’ interest in Dembele waned after they signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly interested in bringing Dembele to Parc des Princes, as were German giants Bayern Munich, who are in danger of losing top scorer Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.

What Position Will Dembele Play For Barcelona In 2022–2023?

Dembele scored one goal and provided 13 assists in 21 league appearances for Barcelona in 2021-22.

He is one of the players who Xavi enjoys having on hand. However, he will be up against Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, and the club’s impending new arrival Raphinha for a starting spot.

It would be interesting to see if Xavi switches Raphinha to the right wing like he did with Dembele last season, or if he keeps using him as a right winger.
