Bayern Munich Signs Mathys Tel From Rennes

Bayern Munich have signed France youth international Mathys Tel, with the highly-rated 17-year-old securing a summer move from Ligue 1 side Rennes. He’s far from completed, but the Bundesliga champions hope they can shape the rough diamond into a senior star.

That process will not be hastened, but all parties involved in the deal believe that the youngster is now in the finest possible position to completely develop his obvious potential.

Who Is Bayern New Signing Mathys Tel?

Tel is a young forward who spent time with Paris FC and at the prestigious Clairefontaine training center before joining Rennes in 2020.

He was quickly promoted through the ranks, surpassing the record held by Real Madrid new boy Eduardo Camavinga as the club’s youngest-ever player when he made his debut at the age of 16 years and 110 days.

He appeared in 10 games for Rennes B during the 2021-22 season, having previously scored six goals in as many games for Rennes A.

He is a France youth international who led his team to European Under-17 Championship gold earlier this year, scoring three goals.

How Much Did Bayern Munich Pay For Mathys Tel?

Bayern had secured a deal to lure Tel away from French football on July 23.

That deal is an initial €20 million (£17m/$20m), with the possibility of an additional €8.5m (£7m/$9m) in add-ons.

He has agreed to terms with the German giants on a five-year deal that would last until the summer of 2027.

Tel was delighted to be announced a new Bayern Munich player, telling the club’s official website: “FC Bayern is one of the best teams in the world. I’m really looking forward to this great challenge and will give everything for this club.

“The talks with Hasan Salihamidžić and those responsible at FC Bayern really impressed me and made me quickly realize that I absolutely wanted to go to Munich.”
