Arsenal defender Pablo Mari has joined Monza on loan. The 28-year-old defender struggled to find his feet at Emirates Stadium and has now been sent out to the newly promoted Serie A club.
Mari joined Arsenal on loan from Flamengo during the 2020 winter transfer window before becoming a permanent member of the club the following summer.
He has only made 22 appearances for the Gunners during his time in north London, scoring once.
What Are The Details Of Mari’s Transfer To Monza?
Mari has signed a one-year loan deal with Monza that includes a €7 million (£5.9m/$7.2m) mandatory buy clause until the end of the following year, if the Serie A team can avoid relegation.

The two clubs have been in negotiations over the transfer for a long time, with the permanent fee being the primary point of disagreement. After everything was in order, the centre-back travelled to Italy earlier this week to finalize the transfer.
Why Did Pablo Mari Leave Arsenal?
Mari was Arteta’s first signing as Arsenal manager in January 2020, and he made his debut in the club’s Europa League semi-final loss to Villarreal later that year.
However, the team quickly signed more defensive reinforcements, and Mari fell further down the pecking order with the signing of Ben White in the summer of 2021.
Mari was loaned out to Udinese in January 2022, but with William Saliba now back at the club following his previous loan spells, Mari was unlikely to play much in 2022-23.

What Other Arsenal Players Have Gone This Summer?
Since the beginning of the summer, Arteta has gradually decreased his roster, with midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira leaving for Marseille and Galatasaray, respectively.
Bernd Leno has joined Fulham for a sum that could grow to £8 million with incentives, while Alexandre Lacazette has returned to Lyon on a free transfer after his contract in north London expired.
Centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos was also sold to Stuttgart, and Nuno Tavares is currently on loan at Marseille.
The Gunners’ clear-out is not over, according to reports, as the club is still considering bids for Runar Alex Runarsson, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Reiss Nelson.
