Police have issued a warning to Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo after an incident involving a phone belonging to an Everton supporter earlier this year.
Back in April, United suffered a defeat to Frank Lampard’s side in a match that significantly boosted the hosts’ chances of remaining in the Premier League.
At the end of the game, Ronaldo was visibly upset, and a fan’s video captured him smacking another Everton fan’s phone out of his hand.
Police said they were investigating the incident at the time, which included a 14-year-old boy, and Ronaldo has now received a warning.
According to a police statement obtained by the Mirror, “We can confirm that a 37-year-old man voluntarily attended and was interviewed under caution in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage,
“The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison Park on Saturday 9 April.
“The matter has been dealt with by way of conditional caution. The matter has now concluded.”
The child received a public apologies from Ronaldo at the time, and he was offered the opportunity to attend a future game at Old Trafford.
The boy’s mother posted pictures of the damage the slap did on social media, and it was reported on Wednesday that Ronaldo has also promised to compensate the child.
What Did The Boy’s Mother Say After The Incident?
Jake’s mother, Sarah Kelly, was obviously upset about what had happened at the moment and had said,
“He’s an idol. Yes, he’s not from Everton, but Ronaldo’s a big player.
“My son’s always been like ‘Ronaldo’s going to be there’ – he’s an icon. I’d understand if Jake was waving it in his face, but he wasn’t.
“He’s an autistic boy and he’s been assaulted by a football player, that’s how I see it as a mum.”

Additionally, she stated that Jake would not be accepting the player’s invitation to watch United, saying, “I did ask him:
“Would you like to go? Ronaldo said we could go to United.”
“No, mum, I would never want to see him again,” he replied.
“That’s upsetting because Ronaldo was one of the reasons he wanted to go to the United game.”
