Atletico Confident On Keeping Cunha Amid Man Utd Interest

In spite of ongoing rumors that Manchester United might be interested in Matheus Cunha, Atletico Madrid are not concerned about the possibility of losing him this summer.

The Red Devils reportedly submitted a bid for the 23-year-old, according to a number of publications, but GOAL reports that no contact has taken place between the teams.

Cunha is still a core member of Diego Simeone’s plans at the Wanda Metropolitano, and there are no immediate intentions to trade the young forward.

His release clause, which is thought to be worth more than €100m ($102m/£84m), is considered as a deal breaker for any possible advances.

What Has The Club Said About Cunha?

The viewpoint in the Spanish capital is pretty clear. Cunha isn’t going anywhere unless a club meets his release clause.

Every player in Spain must have a release clause included in their contract, and in the case of the Brazil international, it’s believed that the value of that clause reaches €100m.

It is quite doubtful that anyone in Europe will put up the cash to steal Cunha away from Atletico at this point in the transfer window, without any meaningful conversations involving both clubs.

He will now be gunning for a spot in Simeone’s starting XI against players like Antoine Griezmann, Joao Felix, Alvaro Morata, and Angel Correa.

Cunha was relegated to the bench in Atletico Madrid’s season-opening win over Getafe.

What Other Options Can United Pursue?

A highly unlikely pursuit of Cunha leaves Manchester United desperate to sign an attacking player before the close of the transfer window.

Nevertheless, a lot of that is dependent on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, who has stated his intention to leave the club this month.

GOAL has reported that Hakim Ziyech, Cody Gakpo, and Antony are on Manchester United’s radar.
