Suarez Counsels Nunez Following His Rash Red Card

Suarez Counsels Nunez Following His Rash Red Card

At Anfield on Monday, there was a feeling of déjà vu as fans witnessed Darwin Nunez channel his inner Luis Suarez on his home debut for the team.

In the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, the club’s record acquisition was given a red card in the second half for headbutting Joachim Andersen.

Nunez had a difficult first outing at Anfield, and it was a really disappointing way to conclude it.

Prior to being dismissed, he had also missed a few excellent opportunities.

The 23-year-old was fortunate that his teammates were able to save a point against the Eagles, but his moment of recklessness would linger long.

Suarez has revealed that he gave his fellow countryman some crucial guidance on how to handle Premier League players after the incident.

What Did Suarez Say To Nunez?

The former Liverpool hero was never far from controversy during his three and a half years on Merseyside, although he never received a red card.

He would have received far harsher on-field punishments in the VAR era, especially after he inexplicably decided to bite Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.

However, Suarez was the first to admit that he might not be in the best position to provide guidance as he confirmed his communication with Nunez.

“With what happened to him the other day I was talking to him because he is just starting out and to make him aware that from now on, opponents will be seeking him out twice or three times more often,” he told Telemundo.

“Even more so in England, he’s hearing this from an idiot who makes mistakes and suffers for them, but falling down and getting up again made me stronger.

“Don’t give them any more chances, it will only get worse.”

Nunez will now miss Liverpool’s subsequent three games after being dismissed for aggressive behavior.

This includes the journey to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United as well as the matches at home against Newcastle and Bournemouth.
