Tuchel: The Blunder From Mendy Cost Us The Game

Following Chelsea’s humiliating 3-0 loss to Leeds United, manager Thomas Tuchel commented about the error made by Edouard Mendy.

The Senegalese attempted to engage Brenden Aaronson who was approaching quickly after receiving a back pass from Thiago Silva. The American stole the ball from him and tapped it in from close range to give Leeds a well-deserved lead.

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain manager believed there was nothing to say when asked about Mendy’s error at Elland Road.

“He knows himself. With these kind of mistakes, I don’t know if it is necessary to speak about it,” Tuchel said on Chelsea’s website.

“He knows himself and it has nothing to do with protecting him, everybody in the world sees that mistake.

“It’s a huge mistake in a crucial time in the match. He’s the one who’s the most disappointed, this cost us a lot today.”

After allowing five goals in his last two league games, Mendy’s ability has been called into question.

His recent performance has upset the fans, who are suggesting that he should be benched in favor of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

What Did Tuchel Say About The Match?

Aside the blunder from Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly’s red card, Tuchel feels that the first-half goals his team conceded were the difference in the closely contested match.

“I think we lost it in the first 20 minutes,” he mentioned.

“We created enough chances and half chances to be 1-0 or 2-0 up and then we lost the discipline. We lost the repetition in doing what we wanted to do and what we did okay in the first 20 minutes.

“For 20 minutes we did it and then we did too much of our own ideas, too much different stuff, which cost us the dominance, cost us the chance to create more chances, but still we did not invite pressure, we did not invite chances, we were not in chaos.”

The London giants will be aiming for redemption when they face Leicester City on August 27.
