We Can Play Football Too! Aaronson Defends America

Brenden Aaronson scored for Leeds on Sunday, and the USMNT midfielder was keen to highlight that “Americans can play football too.”

The brilliant 21-year-old playmaker made a £25m ($30m) transfer from Red Bull Salzburg over the summer and has not appeared out of place in England’s top tier.

While his goal account for the Whites was opened with a helping hand from Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy, he is further proof that value can be discovered in the United States talent pool.

Seemingly, there will be plenty more to come from that area of the world in the coming years.

What Did Aaronson Say About The USA?

Aaronson said to NBC that his performance proved to people all across the world that Americans can play football as well.

“We are playing for a Premier League team, getting goals and assists and the coaching side too. There’s more and more talent, it’s a great start and it’s going to get better.”

At Leeds, Aaronson is collaborating with a couple of his American compatriots. This summer, international colleague Tyler Adams also came in as a new signing, and Jesse Marsch is also the team’s manager.

With a relentless energy returning to their game and an undefeated start to the 2022–23 season, Leeds are starting to resemble their former selves.

Leeds secured survival on the final day of the 2021–22 season thanks in large part to Marsch’s philosophy and coaching.

Aaronson is buying into that philosophy: “His message was we are going to press them, not stay back. We are going to go after them and that sums up this goal.

“I think who wants it more? Making this final step is something Jesse always talks about. I learned the skill with Salzburg and now the whole squad is learning it and it is paying off.”
