Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed why club officials voted against the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
When the Portugal international allegedly told Manchester United that he wanted to go during the current transfer window, the Bundesliga champions were among the first clubs to be linked with him.
Despite losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, Bayern decided against signing the 37-year-old, who has so far been unable to leave Old Trafford.
Salihamidizic explained that the club’s board of directors decided against signing Ronaldo this summer for both sporting and economical grounds.
Bayern Director Reveals Why Club Did Not Sign Ronaldo
Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic recently spoke to BILD about the situation and revealed why the club decided not to sign Ronaldo.
‘When you now see how our attack is equipped – even without Robert Lewandowski – it’s just difficult from a sporting and financial point of view.”
“We have eight players for four positions upfront.. We have established top players who are in the prime of their footballing age. We have talent that we want to give playing time too, so we all voted to go through with our plan.”
“So that (Ronaldo) was out of question for us. We are very happy with how we’re equipped.”
Sadio Mane, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, and Leroy Sane are among the Bundesliga’s best attacking forwards. With so many outstanding players higher up the field, Ronaldo was unlikely to get much playing time even if he was signed by Bayern. It would be intriguing to see if the Portuguese international leaves Old Trafford before the summer transfer season closes in one week.

Ten Hag Gives Update On Ronaldo’s Future
Since Erik ten Hag was appointed as Manchester United’s new manager, there has been concern over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford, as the Portuguese international is not seen as a presser. However, the Dutch manager has denied these rumours.
When asked if the 37-year-old could adapt to his method, Ten Hag responded, “I think he can. In his whole career, under several managers, he did in several styles and systems. He always performed, so, why he can’t do this? For me, his age is not an issue. If you are young, you are good enough, and when you are old and you still deliver the performance, you are also good enough.”.
