Newcastle United Sign Alexander Isak From Real Sociedad For Club-Record £63m

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak for a club-record fee of £63m.

Earlier this week, it was widely reported that the addition of the Sweden international would strengthen Eddie Howe’s team.

When asked about a possible deal after Wednesday’s EFL Cup match against Tranmere Rovers, Howe remained tight-lipped.

However, on Friday morning, Howe revealed that Newcastle was on the verge of finalising a deal.

The North East club have now formally announced that Isak has signed a long-term contract with St James’ Park.

While the Magpies say to have paid an undisclosed fee for the 22-year-old, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the Premier League club has committed to paying €65m (£55.14m) plus an additional €5m (£4.24m) in add-ons.

Isak told the club’s website, “I’m delighted to have it done.” It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with.

“It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here – and also the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in.

“You always want to go into a team and know how they play. I think Newcastle play very attractive football and I want to be a part of that.”

Isak is Newcastle’s fourth summer signing, following the signings of Nick Pope, Sven Botman, and Matt Targett.

Isak has played for Sociedad in La Liga since 2019, contributing 33 goals and five assists in 105 appearances in Spain’s top league.

The former Borussia Dortmund player turned down the chance to play in the Europa League this season in order to move to Tyneside.

As things stand, it’s uncertain whether Isak was registered in time to play against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
