Luka Modric has explained why Real Madrid would not suffer after losing Casemiro to Manchester United due to their strength in depth in midfield.
Casemiro joined Manchester United for £70 million during the transfer window to help them recover from their initial bad form.
Casemiro and Modric formed a powerful midfield triangle with Germany’s Toni Kroos at Real Madrid, and all three were crucial to the club’s continuous success.

However, Modric, who turned 37 on Friday, believes that the LaLiga club’s other options in the centre of the field mean Casemiro’s departure from Real Madrid will not be an issue.
Speaking to Real Madrid TV, Modric said: ‘We’ve started really well this year and we have a strong team. In midfield, we lost an important player in Casemiro, but we’ve got a lot of other good players to replace him and do a good job.
‘[Aurelien] Tchouameni has adapted really well. This is [Eduardo] Camavinga’s second year and he had a great first year. Kroos has been here for a long time.
‘[Federico] Valverde is also doing really well in any position. [Dani] Ceballos is helping the team a lot. We’re well equipped in this position.’
Real Madrid has won all of their games so far, most recently a 3-0 triumph on the road at Celtic in their first Champions League defence.
The experienced midfielder has been in good form, but he cannot explain his success other than his obsession with the game.
‘I always get asked what my secret is, but I don’t know what to tell you,’ Modric continued.
‘It’s something natural. I live because of and for football almost 24 hours a day. I think that’s really important.
‘I love what I do and I’m enjoying my profession to the full, you never know how long you can last at this level and at this club, which demands so much.
‘I just try to enjoy the training sessions and the games. All this helps to be in good shape as you get older.’
