While stating that Sadio Mane has not “reached his peak yet,” Julian Nagelsmann has also pushed the Bayern Munich star to be “more arrogant” in a good way.
Mane has made a modest start to life at the Allianz Arena after moving to Bayern from Liverpool for €41m (£35.5m). However, Nagelsmann is optimistic that there is still much more to come from Mane who may be prone to over-thinking in the final third.
What Was Said About Mane?
Following Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to Barcelona, Mane took over the striking position for Bayern. He has so far found the back of the net five times in his first nine games.
However, two of those attempts came in a 7-0 victory against VfL Bochum, and Bayern has drawn its last three Bundesliga games.
“Sometimes (he is) maybe too critical. That he thinks a tad too much,” Nagelsmann told reporters.
Nagelsmann on Mané: “He’s self critical, maybe a bit too critical at times. He needs to be even more self-confident and not think too much. I am not critical of his performances and still looking forward to him exploding here. In principle, I’m happy with the job he’s done so far pic.twitter.com/yii6lNLA8t

“I told him that he could have more self-confidence and more confidence in his abilities as a leader. Of course, we don’t have much time.
“If everyone starts to see for six months what we can and can’t do, a lot of the games will already be over.

“So, he’s welcome to be even more self-confident and a bit, how shall I say, act positively more arrogant. Too much of it isn’t good either. But I’m not critical of his performance.
“I don’t think he’s reached his peak yet. I’m looking forward to his peak.”
Bayern plays host to Barcelona in their second Champions League group game on Tuesday night. Mane will be hoping he can show a bit of the class his coach desires of him.
