Spain Release 25-Man Squad With Six Barcelona Players, Fati Misses Out

Six Barcelona players have been called up to the Spain national team, with Ansu Fati left out by Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique revealed the team for Spain’s forthcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Switzerland and Portugal in the coming weeks.

Spain will square off against Switzerland and big rivals Portugal as they prepare for the FIFA World Cup in November. These matches will give Enrique one last opportunity to scrutinize his players before the big tournament in Qatar.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona have as many as six representatives called up to the Spain squad for the upcoming fixtures.

As expected, Sergio Busquets was selected, along with fellow midfielders Pedri and Gavi, whose inclusions were also expected given their outstanding performance so far in the season.

Another Barca player called up is Eric Garcia, who has been one of Barça’s top players thus far this season.

Along with the four, the Spain coach also chose to include Jordi Alba despite his reduced activity this season.

The final Barcelona player on the Spain team is Ferran Torres. Another player who has not been playing frequently this season but Enrique has enough confidence in the forward to give him a chance to board the flight to Qatar.

However, Ansu Fati is once again overlooked for Spain by Enrique. Barcelona have used the 19-year-old with caution this season because of his prior injury concerns, and it appears that Enrique does not want to hurry him back into action.

Overall, Coach Enrique has come up with a whole lot of other surprises in the squad list. Notable will be the absences of PSG’s Sergio Ramos and Man  United’s David De Gea.
