I Still Talk To Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Bruno Fernandes Reveals

Bruno Fernandes has disclosed that he still communicates with his former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since being fired by United officials almost a year ago, the Norwegian has struggled to find a new team. Everyone associated with the Red Devils during his final few weeks in charge experienced a dark period.

However, the way he left Old Trafford did not ultimately reflect poorly on his playing accomplishments there, nor did it harm his friendship with Fernandes, who he signed to the Premier League in January 2020.

What Did Bruno Fernandes Say About Solskjaer?

The United midfielder told The Athletic, “He still sends me some messages and says congratulations for certain things.

“He’s someone who I want to remain in touch with. I said that to him before he left the club.”

Fernandes, who was told “be yourself” by Solskajer upon his arrival to England, went on to describe him as “an amazing person, the kind of guy who cares about everyone, who tries to make everyone happy.”

And because of their close relationship, when Ole was under pressure and his sack was drawing near, Fernandes stepped in to protect him.

Solskjaer was jeered by some of the traveling supporters after what would be his final game as manager, a humiliating 4-1 loss at Watford.

It prompted Fernandes to appear and instruct them to aim their rage at him and his teammates instead.

“After Watford, it was like some people were booing him. I did not like it because I felt, ‘Why not do that to us?’. We were the ones who went on the pitch and lost the game.

“At that moment, I felt someone needed to step up or protect him. I didn’t want to take the blame for Ole, but for everyone to take responsibility together.

“It was not a good period and it was not always Ole with the problem, because he did great things before.”

Solskjaer was sacked the following day, going on to hold an emotional interview with the club.

Fernandes admitted: “When he came to say goodbye to everyone, it was a tough message for him and really difficult.

“You could feel it was probably one of the worst days of his life.”
