Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Monaco defender Vanderson in January.

The Red Devils are expected to bring in a new right-back next season, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka considered surplus to needs by new head coach Erik ten Hag.

Diogo Dalot has established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back, with the Portugal international having made an impressive start to the season, contributing two assists in eight games across all competitions.

Man United, on the other hand, wants to strengthen their options in that area of the field, and Vanderson has been named as the club’s top target, according to Sport.

According to the report, the English club’s football director, John Murtough, has already spoken to the defender’s representatives about a move to Old Trafford.

Vanderson is believed to be eager to leave Monaco next year to join United, though it is uncertain whether the Ligue 1 club would be willing to transfer him in January.

Barcelona had also been linked with the Brazilian over the summer, with the La Liga club being quoted as much as €60m (£52m) for a player with five years left on his contract.

Vanderson joined Monaco from Gremio in January and has now played 33 times for the principality side, scoring twice and assisting three times.

Meanwhile, the South American has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, seven of which have come in the league, and twice in the Europa League group stage.

The 21-year-old is also said to be on Barcelona’s radar, despite the Catalan club bringing back Hector Bellerin in the closing days of the summer transfer window.

Recently, Man United boss Ten Hag made a suggestion that his team would be active in January, with recruitment talks scheduled during the time of the international break.

“Always to use such breaks [is] useful,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “We have many meetings, we have to improve the structures in and around the club, we will do.

“We will also look to the window in January or next summer already but also to improve our way of playing by making plans and, of course, this coming period with every third day a game we have to get ready for that.

“The players: 90% is away, the others will train proper and for the rest we have to prepare very well and I hope everyone stays fit, return, healthy back and we have to go in and attack.”

The Red Devils have not played a Premier League match since beating Arsenal on September 4 owing to the postponement of their previous two league games, although they defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in the Europa League last week.
