Portugal Have Better Players Than We Do, Says Luis Enrique

Prior to their Nations League showdown, Spain manager Luis Enrique has conceded that Portugal has “better players” than his team.

The two sides meet in a winner-takes-all final group match in the Nations League on Tuesday.
The Spain coach, who is renowned for his direct approach, gave brutally honest assessment of the two teams prior to Tuesday’s meeting in Braga.
Nevertheless, both squads are loaded with skills and are expected to be among the favorites to win the World Cup.

Spain, however, lost to Switzerland in the Nations League in an unexpected fashion going into their match on Tuesday. This meant Luis Enrique’s team suffered their first home loss in four years.

Meanwhile Portugal defeated the Czech Republic 4-0 and are in pole position to qualify for next summer’s finals.

Portugal need just a point to join Netherlands, Italy, and Croatia in the final four.

Ahead of the match, Luis Enrique said in a press conference: “Regarding Spain today, Portugal has better players than Spain. Starting players in the Premier League, La Liga and other championships.

“It exports a lot of players, it’s very interesting. I hope both teams triumph in the World Cup.”

After the Portugal match, Luis Enrique’s side play a friendly against Jordan in November before the start of the World Cup.
