Leeds United Set To beat Man United To Cody Gakpo Deal

Leeds United are reportedly in pole position to beat arch rivals Manchester United to the signing of Dutch player of the year Cody Gakpo in the new year.

Over the summer, the 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, while Arsenal are also thought to have looked into bringing the Netherlands international to the Premier League.

According to a recent report, PSV may be forced to sell Gakpo next year due to financial difficulties, with the forward likely leaving in January or at the end of the 2022-23 season.

As per The Mirror, Leeds have already agreed personal terms with the forward and are in talks with PSV on a £30m transfer.

According to the report, Gakpo is ‘desperate to move to England,’ but a move to Manchester United is now unlikely, with the club preparing for a quiet winter window.

The Dutchman has been in fine form at club level this season, scoring 12 goals and registering 10 assists in 15 games across all competitions.

Gakpo has eight goals and six assists in eight league matches, while he has three goals and one assist in two Europa League group stage appearances.

The forwards has four years left on his deal with PSV after signing an extension in January.

However, the Dutch heavyweights are said to be looking to cash in on the attacker after failing to qualify for the Champions League group stage this season.

PSV defeated Monaco in the third qualifying round of the competition before being eliminated by Rangers, who won the match 3-2 on aggregate.

Gakpo has scored 54 goals and assisted 43 times in 150 matches for PSV since making his debut in 2018.
