Thiago Silva keen For Contract Talks With Chelsea

Thiago Silva wants to have contract talks with Chelsea before the end of the year if he is in their plans for next season or not.

When the Blues signed the Brazilian international in 2020, there were concerns about his longevity due to his advanced age and the demands of the Premier League.

Despite turning 38 in September, Silva remains Chelsea’s first-choice center-back, appearing in the majority of Premier League and Champions League games.

The veteran has played in 91 matches overall across all competitions, nine of which were under Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter in 2022–2023.

With less than a year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, Potter and the club’s management must make a decision on his future.

Potter said at a press conference on Monday, ahead of the match against Milan, that Silva will dictate his own future as a result of the level of respect he commands at the club.

However, in the same press conference, Silva stated that he was keen to have talks with the relevant parties as soon as possible.

“I can tell you that what is important is to continue playing at a high level and help the team to achieve the best possible results,” Silva told reporters according to The Mirror.

“For sure, there will be a time when we need to talk, it could be before the World Cup or after the World Cup because I need to know whether I will have a new contract with Chelsea for my family arrangements.

“If I don’t have a new contract, I will have to decide what to do. For my family it’s an important decision. We will see what happens.”

Silva was also quizzed about a possible return to the club where he won the Serie A title between 2009 and 2012.

While Silva would not rule out a reunion with I Rossoneri, he did suggest that a second stint was improbable, especially with the sides facing off in a critical match.
