Man United ‘To Tie Down Marcus Rashford Before New Year’

Man United ‘To Tie Down Marcus Rashford Before New Year’

Manchester United reportedly wants to offer Marcus Rashford a new contract before the end of the year to fend off interest from rival clubs.

During the 2021-22 season, there was widespread speculation that the academy graduate might be allowed to leave Old Trafford after the worst run of his professional career.

With Rashford having scored just five goals in 32 appearances in all competitions, there was speculation that a split would be fair to both parties, especially with his contract expiring soon.

However, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, the 25-year-old has experienced a revival, recording seven goals and three assists in 15 outings in the Premier League and Europa League.

Rashford also scored his 100th goal for the club on Sunday, when United defeated West Ham United 1-0 in the Premier League.

The forward’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, although United may activate a 12-month option.

The Daily Mail reports that club officials plan to use that clause or negotiate new terms with the attacker.

Rashford is presently two months away from being eligible to have talks with foreign clubs about a pre-contract arrangement.

As per the report, Paris Saint-Germain have kept a close eye on the situation after first showing interest earlier this year.

However, it is highly possible that United will block any negotiations from happening, even if time runs out to negotiate a long-term contract due to the World Cup.

While there is no certainty that Rashford will be included to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad, his form and versatility could put him ahead of other options.

Rashford is expected to start against Real Sociedad in a crucial Europa League match on Thursday night.
