David de Gea ‘Faces significant Pay Cut To Remain at Man United’

David de Gea would reportedly have to take a significant pay cut by if he wishes to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

The 31-year-old, who has been left out of Spain’s World Cup team, is nearing the end of his contract at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have the option to extend his contract for another year, but there has been conjecture over his future, with rumours that head coach Erik ten Hag wants to bring in a new number one.

According to the Daily Star, De Gea’s performance this season has convinced Ten Hag that he is still capable of producing at the ultimate level, and the club’s head coach is eager to keep him.

However, the report claims that the Spaniard would have to accept a significant pay cut, as the club is unwilling to renew the contract on his current salary.

De Gea is thought to be earning around £375,000 per week, making him the club’s second-highest earner after Cristiano Ronaldo, who is poised to leave on a free transfer next June.

There have reportedly been no contacts between the club and De Gea’s agents, although there could be talks during the World Cup break if De Gea is not picked for Spain.
