Chelsea Face A Dilemma As Mason Mount Rejects Contract

Chelsea star Mason Mount rejected a mammoth seven-year contract offer during talks with Todd Boehly, according to reports.

The Blues are keen for the midfielder to extend his deal and will apparently revisit talks after the Qatar World Cup.

Mount has surprisingly been allowed to enter the final 18 months of his Chelsea deal. His last extension came in the summer of 2019, just months before he made his senior debut for the West Londoners under Frank Lampard.

The 23-year-old therefore remains on a modest salary and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Wide-ranging reports claim that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the England player’s situation.

Chelsea want their academy graduate to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2024 and have held talks with both Mason Mount and his representatives.

Co-owner Todd Boehly has played an active role in discussions.

That is according to The Athletic, who report that part of those talks involved Mount being offered an eye-watering seven-year deal.

It came as part of a plan to tie down Chelsea’s key young players to lengthy terms.

Reece James recently penned a five-year extension at Chelsea. Meanwhile, striker Armando Broja agreed to a six-year stay. But the longest offer was to Mount, who rejected the proposal.
