Lionel Messi has been linked with a move to Inter Miami again, but his agent has strongly denied the latest speculation as “fake news.”
Messi is allowed to speak with clubs outside of France over a potential move beginning in January, before his contract expires in the summer.
A move to the MLS has been spoken about for years, with Messi previously professing his desire to play in the United States before retiring. “I would like to play in the United States one day; it’s always been one of my dreams,” he said two years ago.
Messi is also said to have a vacation home in Miami, fueling speculation of a move to David Beckham’s club. Over the weekend, it was reported that Messi was close to signing a record-breaking deal with Inter Miami.
However, Messi’s agent, Marcelo Mendez, insists that is not the case, telling CNN: “It’s false, it’s fake news. There is no negotiation for Lionel to join Inter Miami next season.”

PSG are reportedly planning to hold contract talks with Messi after the World Cup. According to reports, the 35-year-old will be granted a new two-year deal in order to fight off interest from other clubs.
A sensational return to Barcelona has also been discussed, with Joan Laporta constantly stating that he would like Messi to return to the Nou Camp. Laporta said earlier this month: “Messi’s return to Barça in 2023? Leo knows that Barcelona is always his home.”
For the time being, Messi is completely focused on international business with Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, with the Albiceleste still needing a favourable result against Poland on Wednesday to advance to the last-16.
