Blaise Matuidi Announces Retirement From Football

World Cup winner and former PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi has announced his retirement from professional football.

Matuidi won the World Cup with France in 2018 and has spent the last two years of his career at Inter Miami.

With his contract slated to run out on December 31, he has confirmed that he will be hanging up his boots for good.

He announced his decision on Twitter with an emotional message and a 30-minute interview.

Matuidi wrote: “Dear Football, I loved you so much. Football, you gave me so much, but the time has come to say enough.

I accomplished my childhood dreams and the dreams I had as a grown man.

It is with a lump in my throat, but with pride, that I turn over this new leaf today. Thank you!”

Matuidi played four of France’s seven games in Russia four years ago, including the final, as Didier Deschamps’ men defeated Croatia 4-2 to clinch the nation’s second World Cup.

He was also a part of the squad that reached the Euro 2016 final, only to lose to Portugal in Paris.

Matuidi made his final international appearance in October 2019 and finished with nine goals in 84 caps for his country.

His move to Inter Miami in 2020 spelled the end of his stint in European football, and he has officially ended his impressive career.
